Wednesday, 5th January, 7.30 PM
MOZART - Divertimento on "Le nozze di Figaro" for three basset horns nach KV 577
Surely Mozart's favourite instrument, after the piano, must have been the clarinet.
Along with its relation, the basset horn with "magical" Masonic overtones, in the eighteenth century it was popular with amateurs and audiences alike.
Works were written for clarinet ensembles by Mozart himself and by many other composers including Stadler, the clarinettist for whom Mozart wrote his clarinet concerto and quintet.
